Delaware County 32-1-33 Magisterial District Court

The Magisterial District Court in Delaware County is not a place that most people enjoy spending any part of their day, yet you might have just been summoned to appear there. If so, it is quite likely that you will be a bit apprehensive as the day approaches. No matter how minor the offense that you have been charged might seem to be, it should be treated with seriousness. This is because a conviction of even a minor traffic violation can haunt you for years to come. This is why you will want to have a lawyer that you can consult with and who will fight the charges on your behalf.

It is very important that you have a lawyer experienced in criminal law to be available to answer any questions that you might have about your appearance in court. Our team of lawyers has just such the experience that you need. We have successfully defended hundreds of residents of Upper Darby. We know the court, the judge, and the prosecutors. Since we understand the process from the beginning to the end, you can rely on us to get you through this difficult time.

Why Did You Receive A Summons?

You might be wondering why you are even being asked to go to the Magisterial District Court. There are several possible reasons. If you have received a traffic citation anywhere in Upper Darby, it is is quite likely that you will be asked to make such a court appearance. This is also the court that conducts preliminary hearings and arraignments for most misdemeanor and felony charges filed in the area. This hearing might not last long, but it is extremely important within the context of your entire case. You will want to make sure your lawyer is right there with you.

The Magisterial District Court is also where bench warrants are received and non-jury trials are conducted. These are heard in front of Magisterial District Judge Harry J. Karapalides. You will also want to know that the Magisterial District Court 32-1-33 is located in the Barclay Square Building at 1550 Garrett Road in Upper Darby. This is covered by the election districts in Milbourne Borough along with voting districts 4-1, 5-1, 6-1, 6-1, 6-3, 6-4, 6-10, 6-12, 7-3, 7-4, 7-5, 7-6, and 7-8 in the Upper Darby Township. Since there are actually several Magisterial District Courts in Upper Darby, make sure that you look at your notice and confirm the exact location of your appearance.

Keep in mind that this court will also handle most types of disputes that are filed between landlords and tenants. It will hear civil cases when the value of the claim is under $12,000. As you can tell, this court stays quite busy. Things will move quite quickly and you could easily get confused by the proceedings. Having a professional lawyer at your side means that you have someone to guide you the process and to answer your questions quickly and professionally.

Fighting Summary Offenses

You might have received a notice to appear in front of the Magisterial District Court because of a summary offense. You do not want to make the mistake of thinking that this is a trivial matter. While they might be the lowest level of offense that can be filed in Pennsylvania, there are serious consequences to a conviction. You will need to pay a fine, face possible jail time, and could be looking at a permanent mark on your criminal record. You want to fight this charge as vigorously as possible, and this is exactly what your office will do for you.
