The Details

There are quite a few different reasons why you may have received a notice that you must appear in front of the 32-1-25 Magisterial District Court in Delaware County. It could be that you received a traffic citation that requires your appearance in front of a judge in order to have the matter resolved. Another reason may be that you will be attending a preliminary arraignment or hearing for a criminal charge that has been lodged against you. The Magisterial District Court also aims to resolve disputes between landlords and tenants, as well as deal with certain types of civil cases where the damage amounts to less than $12,000.

Since there are 33 different Magisterial District Courts in Delaware County alone, you will want to know where the one for 32-1-25 is actually located. It is directly in the town of Havertown. This is the area governed by the election district in Wards 1, 3, and 4 in the Haverford Township. Keep in mind that there are two Magisterial District Courts located in Havertown. As such, you will want to check the notification that you received to make sure you go to the right place on the date of your appearance. You can also ask your lawyer for more specific directions.

What Does the Magisterial District Court Do?

You might be wondering what the function of the Magisterial District Court in Delaware County actually is. To begin, this is the court that is responsible for handling all of the summary offenses on the docket in the district. These offenses are the lowest level charged in Pennsylvania when it comes to criminal charges, but that does not mean that they should be taken any less seriously. Some of the more common summary offenses that are heard in Magisterial District Court include acts of criminal mischief or disorderly conduct, underage drinking, matters of harassment, driving with a license that has been suspended, and certain types of shoplifting charges.

The Magisterial District Court is presided over by a judge who is able to administer a wide range of official oaths and can officiate marriages. If you need to appear for a preliminary or hearing due to a misdemeanor or felony charge that has been filed against you, this is also where you need to go. If the case is allowed to proceed after that point, it will be sent to the Court of Common Pleas.

You Need A Criminal Defense Lawyer

You should not feel that you have to fight this important legal matter alone. In fact, it is best not to. You do not want to risk a conviction that can follow you around wherever you go for the rest of your life. You should be fighting even a minor traffic violation because it can result in points being added to your record.
